I’m Thato Koketso Mothapo, but you probably know me as Guerrero. It means soldier. Warrior. That’s who I am, and that’s what my music is. Guerrero isn’t a stage name — it’s the fire that burns in me.
I come from Tembisa. The streets raised me. The noise, the chaos, the concrete, the struggle — but also the pride, the ambition, the luxury of knowing you survived yesterday and you’ll survive today.
That’s where my style comes from: ghetto grit mixed with luxury mindset.
A hard-and-soft combination. A reminder that a flaw in the right place is a weapon.
I recorded my first song in 2017, just playing around — and the music flowed like I had been making it forever. It wasn’t forced. It wasn’t calculated. It came from somewhere deep and subconscious.
BACK” is my first official drop on all digital platforms — and trust me, this one is personal. I wrote this song for myself, during a moment when I realised I’d been waiting too long — waiting to be discovered, waiting for someone to validate me, waiting for permission to shine.
Then I woke up.
No one was coming to save me.
I had to save myself.
So I made a promise:
Get up. Build your own foundation. Stop sleeping on yourself. Put in the work.
That’s when the line hit me:
“Never been gone… but I’m BACK.”
Not back because I disappeared — back because I finally chose myself.
The visualizer? I shot it in a hostel right next to my grandmother’s house — the kind of place outsiders call dangerous, dirty, harsh. But for the people born there? It’s home. It’s peace. It’s kids smiling in the middle of what others fear. That’s what I wanted to show the world.
Every track I make carries that militant township energy. My mission is to tell the stories of Tembisa — the real ones, the raw ones, the ones people overlook. I want the kids in the ghetto to know: your environment doesn’t define you. My people don’t look like the place they come from — and neither do I.
“BACK” was recorded, mixed, and mastered on 18 May 2025 in Emfihlweni — where it all began for me.
I’m not back because I left.
I’m BACK because I finally stepped into who I was always meant to be.
