Robert Dugdale is a singer/songwriter based in Brighton who also works as a scenic artist in the film and television industry. He says “Apart from painting song writing is one of my greatest loves and I have been doing it since I was seven or eight”.
At college Robert Dugdale played guitar in a punk band called โAndrew Hyde and the Swinging Five‘ with Angus McCubbine on vocals, Andy Hyde on bass and Neil McKinnon on drums.
Robert Dugdale later formed a band called ‘The Artisans’ playing guitar and providing vocals alongside Dave Morris on keyboard and vocals, Kent Shelley bass and vocals & Dave Sharp on drums.
The Artisans musical style was synth pop and one of their songs ‘Take Me To’ has been revamped and features on Robert’s new album ‘For Paula’.
Following this Robert Dugdale played guitar and sang vocals for a band called ‘Sugar Mine’ who were founded by ‘Charles Banugo’ and were offered a recording contract with Parlophone.
Robert Dugdale then joined a Brighton based band called ‘Gala’ who were signed to Latest Records.ย The band was named after and fronted by singer/songwriter ‘Gala Orsborn’ who had been discovered by a member of the band ‘Turin Brakes’.
Robert Dugdale then teamed up with Matt and Ville Leppanen from Animal Farm Studios to produce his brand new album ‘For Paula’ while also playing for the covers band called ‘Strange Brew’.
‘Strange Brew’ consists of Robert Dugdale on guitar and vocals, Mike Shilling on keyboards, Steve Phillips on bass and either Brian Gee or Paul Steedman on drums. Mike and Paul from Strange Brew feature on Robert’s brand new solo album.
Robert Dugdale is influenced by artists like The Beatles, The Killers, Bon Jovi, New Order, The Strokes, The Seekers, John Mayer, John Lennon, Kaiser Chiefs, Pulp and Erasure.
The brand new debut solo album from Robert Dugdale is entitled ‘For Paula’ and is out now from all good digital stores.
